@ccbackwoods/snowmobile ccbackwoods Join the Hilltop Howlers Snowmobile Club and cruise their groomed trails! THE SNOWMOBILE EXPERIENCE T he snow is getting deeper each minute and the wind feels as though it could blow right through you. While most people would stay home and snuggle up with a warm blanket, the snowmobilers will head into the storm. This is what they wait for all year. Their machines are fine-tuned and they anxiously wait what lies ahead. All of their equipment: boots, helmets, gloves and suits have been gone over and are ready for these extreme conditions. When you get on your way, you are greeted with a perfectly groomed trail and you give your machine a little more throttle. You soak up the beauty around you, the endless mountains, vistas, waterways and blue skies. Today’s ride will be a cross-country jaunt of over 100 miles. The new 4-stroke engine will handle the whole trip with a quarter tank of gas to spare. There is no need to check the oil, you just had it changed 1000 miles ago and you still have 2000 miles to go .The twelve inches of suspension gobble up any bumps that the groomer may have left behind without any problems. Clearfield County in Western Pennsylvania has some of the greatest snowmobiling in the country. You can see several native Indian grounds, beautiful rock formations, deep valleys, waterfalls and natural bogs, all from the seat of your machine. You can ride to several places to get fuel, see two different state parks check into hotels or a bed and breakfast or maybe even your own personal cabin. Along the way you may possibly see several wild animals such as deer, turkeys, coyotes, bobcats and the majestic elk. The Hilltop Howlers Snowmobile Club located in Rockton, PA. is active all year long. They have a summer party (picnic) complete with a snowmobile crossing water, a “kick off the season” Halloween party, a Vintage ride (all sleds are 25 or more years old) and a Poker Fun Run. The Hilltop Howlers Snowmobile Club leases and maintains its own trail grooming machine .The club has a goal of grooming at least 750 miles of trails this season. They also have their own clubhouse located at 6453 Rockton Mountain Highway. They boast to have the only known ride-thru food window in the state of Pennsylvania that allows you to drive your sled up to the kitchen window then go eat by the outdoor fire. Or you may want to go inside to enjoy the warm atmosphere & watch the big screen television. The club even has a storage facility so that you can keep your sled right there on top of the mountain. Now with your stomach full, your clothes warm and dry and your sled full of gas, you can head off into the beautiful winter landscapes. So next time you’re thinking of all that “white stuff” and the cold, buy a snowmobile, so that you can experience the time of your life right here in Clearfield County.
